Daddy comes to kindy!

Today Daddy came to kindy with me for the day and Mr Puppet came too.  I loved playing with Daddy today.  It was such a fun day with Daddy.  We listened to 'Wonky Donky' and Mr Puppet looked very silly with the earphones on!  I enjoyed Daddy here at kindy.  I played with lots of stuff. I did a painting, I played with the train track and it was a very fun day today.  I got an egg with a bird in it and I wrote a treasure map to Santa Claus.  By Freya.

Babycino

We went for a playdate with some very good friends today.  I ordered Eli a babycino but what he got was much more like a small hot chocolate.  He certainly wasn't complaining but oh my goodness I was left wishing that he wasn't dressed in white!

Sweet Dreams

I used to always put you to sleep.  These days your daddy reads your bedtime stories and sits with you while you go to sleep and I feed Eli to sleep.  But tonight I sat with you while you went to sleep and oh how I love to just watch you while you drift into slumber.  Curled up snugly with one of your stuffed animals.  It was Darcy's turn tonight.  Goodnight my beautiful girl.

Playgroup

We've been going to playgroup since Freya was just over a year old.  Over the years it's been a sanity saver for me ... a easy and inexpensive way to get out of the house on a regular basis and talk to other mums and dads.  This year we've only made it very sporadically.  Now that Freya is at kindy we don't have quite so much spare time to 'fill' and I've been busy with university work and teaching prac.  But it was nice to get there today and it occurs to me that this time in our life is probably drawing to a close.  Next year Freya will be at Prep and we really have no idea where we'll be living then.   So I guess we'll make the most of it for as long as it lasts.

Eating has always been a feature of our time at playgroup.  For Freya it used to be the excitement of packing a little lunchbox.  For Eli it is the opportunity to swipe something off of the tables ... it's always better if it belongs to someone else!  Music time has also been greatly enjoyed by both of you.  The raucous banging of instruments whilst singing favourite songs.  As I watched you both bop to the infamous 'sleeping bunnies' today it occured to me that this is something that I really should film while I still have the chance.  Next time!

The Shingle Inn

I had this romanticised notion that it would be lovely for us to have cake this afternoon at 'The Shingle Inn.'  A new store has just opened at a shopping centre near us and my grandmother has spoken to me fondly of time she used to spend at the flagship store which opened in Brisbane City in the 1930's.  She fondly recounts how very good their patty cakes were.    I've been thinking it might be nice to take her there sometime soon...  I'm now thinking perhaps without the children!  Or heck, maybe with them.   It's not quite as relaxing going with them but it certainly is always an adventure.   I thought patty cakes would keep them occupied while I had a leisurely coffee but Freya wanted a giant lamington and Eli pointed furiously at a slightly evil looking clown biscuit.  Freya ate her lamington but Eli's interest in the biscuit ended after a little bit of wild jabbing at it.  He instead occupied himself with making his best high pitched squealing noise and peering over the top of our booth at the people next to us.  I thought a Tuesday afternoon at 2:30pm would be a quiet time... how wrong was I!   It was packed.  But the milkshakes were a hit.  A huge resounding hit.

Little acts of kindness

Today I resigned from my previous employment.  Eli came with me to do so and my lovely friend Jackie gave him a little duck and a little fish while we were there.  Eli was so very, very pleased with them.  He kissed them and held them up to each other for little kisses too.  On the way home we stopped at the bakery and Eli had to take them in with us.   The lady there made Eli laugh with utter delight as she made duck noises for him and made her hands swim like a fish.  When we got to kindy to pick up Freya they of course had to come in there too!
