Little Mummy

Freya received a baby carrier from her Aunty Sniv for her birthday and has lovingly carried her baby Isabelle around in it all day.  She decided to use some of her birthday money to buy her a highchair.

Freya turns 5!

Freya decided that for her 5th birthday she wanted to go back to Walkabout Creek to visit a pair of sleepy cod whom on a previous visit she had taken a fancy to and named 'Bert & Bob'.  She also wanted to go to Hungry Jacks for dinner.  I was surprised that she didn't request a trip to one of the theme parks or a party however Freya often surprises me with her ideas so that is nothing new!

On the day Freya was excited to learn that friends Tom, Josie and their mum Georgina were going to meet us at Walkabout Creek.  Together we explored the Wildlife Centre, visiting Bert & Bob before heading back up to meet with Nana, Aunty Priya, Abby, Uncle Kenny & Michelle for morning tea.  After morning tea Tom, Josie and Georgina headed home and the rest of us went for a little bushwalk.  After all that walking a milkshake was in order when we returned!

Later that afternoon following a trip to Nana & Pop's we finally got around to having Freya's birthday cake... a dismal attempt by me at a Bert & Bob cake!  Freya was most gracious and told us that 'even though it didn't look the best, it tasted wonderful'.   Freya's friend Liva came over for the cake and so it was lovely that a different parts of the day she got to see her two best friends - Liva and Tom.

Finally it was time for dinner at Hungry Jacks with the birthday voucher Freya had received in the mail.   Freya bought her new baby doll 'Isabelle' with her which was one of her favourite presents from the day.

Marching!

Today we went along to a rally to protest the significant public service job cuts being made by the government in Queensland.  On the way in Freya and I had a discussion about what it means to live in a democracy and the benefits of this.

I used to go to public rallies/marches with my Aunty and we would take a tamborine with us - it became a bit of a tradition.  We couldn't find a tamborine in our rush this morning but we found a recorder to help make some noise with.  Freya thought it was wonderful that she could play this in the march and took her role as 'recorder player' very seriously indeed :-)

Besties

Earlier this year Liva moved in down the back.  These days they spend many hours in one another's company and it is beautiful to watch their friendship grow.  I love that Freya has a little friend as a neighbour now... it's something that I always had as a child and I'm so happy that they can just hop the fence to one another now.

Tonka Truck

The highlight of today for Eli was playing Tonka trucks with Uncle Kenny!

Krystal's Naming Day

Today we went to a beautiful naming day for baby Krystal.    It was particularly special to attend her naming day because Krystal wore our family gown.  Her mother Ashleigh is my mother's Goddaughter.  The gown was first worn by my mother for her Christening and has been subsequently worn by her siblings for their Christenings, my siblings and I for our Christenings, Ashleigh for her naming day, Freya and Keily for their naming days and now Krystal for hers.   We broke with tradition for Eli's naming day and he wore a suit.

For the most part the day was truly lovely... until the cake came out and a very tired Eli decided that he wanted it straight away.  We offered up a cupcake to no avail, he wanted the cake!  Ashleigh quickly cut the cake and Eli was offered the very first piece but to the collective gasp of the entire party he swatted it away and nearly sent it flying.   After all of that and quite a few tears later he decided he wanted the cupcake afterall!

Toilet training

I decided to start toilet training Eli yesterday.  So far this means lots of nappy free time and getting used to sitting on the potty and toilet.  Eli has decided that the potty is a car and drags it around the loungeroom.  Eli so far thinks it's a bit of fun to sit on the toilet and his sister is keen to give him lots of tips... he is most interested in having a go at using the toilet paper although so far has produced no reason to actually be using it!

Sick

My poor beautiful girl has been sick.  Raging temperatures saw our family doctor sending us for a trip to the hospital yesterday when her temperature kept climbing even after paracetamol.  Happily for us her temperature did come down enough for the hospital to be happy to let her go home and Freya was impressed with how nice all of the doctors had been to her (a FREE orange popper from our GP and a FREE icypole from the hospital doctor).  It seems that Freya has a case of influenza.  It has not made for a fun week for her or for her little brother who is starting to look a bit bored with our housebound state of affairs.
