Today Freya got her first pair of school shoes... part of her Christmas present from Pop. I felt the need to take her to a specialty childrens' store not just for the shoes themselves but also for the experience of climbing up the little set of stairs for the fitting. Somehow it seems like of of those rites of passage occasions to me.

Visiting Prep
Freya's kindy went on an excursion to visit a prep class today and they were each buddied with a child from prep for the morning. First they went to a music lesson with the prep class and then they came back for some morning tea followed by a range of free play activities. Freya and her buddy decided to do some drawing and Freya loved using a dinosour stencil. It amused me to no end as I saw the look of mild horror on Freya's face when her new friend gave her a drawing. Usually Freya would be delighted at such a gift but I could almost see the internal struggle between wanting to reciprocate the kind act and wanting to keep the dinosaur picture that she was drawing for herself. In the end she quickly grabbed another piece of paper, whipped up a quick picture of a rainbow and handed that across before going back to finish her own picture. It all made me laugh and laugh!

Little Mummy
Freya received a baby carrier from her Aunty Sniv for her birthday and has lovingly carried her baby Isabelle around in it all day. She decided to use some of her birthday money to buy her a highchair.

Besties
Earlier this year Liva moved in down the back. These days they spend many hours in one another's company and it is beautiful to watch their friendship grow. I love that Freya has a little friend as a neighbour now... it's something that I always had as a child and I'm so happy that they can just hop the fence to one another now.

Kindy Ekka
What an exciting day today was for Freya - the Kindy Expedition (as Freya calls the Exhibition). The wonderful thing is that the Kindy Ekka all came about at Freya's suggestion. Freya's teachers embraced the suggestion and the children set about planning a huge Ekka complete with showbags, facepainting, rides, games, food and signage! Lot's of parents were involved to make the day possible. Sadly, I wasn't able to go on the day because I was doing my final internship to become a primary school teacher but Daddy went along and took lots of photos for us.

Her very own picture plate
Tonight Freya was really excited to eat from her new picture plate for the very first time. She drew the picture of Big Ted and Little Ted's birthday party and it got sent away to be made into a plate as a fundraising activity for the kindy. I think it's really cool!

Photo Exhibit
Today we went to see a photo that Freya took which is currently being exhibited at our local library as part of a project she did at kindy. I love sign on the display which reads:
"The following pictures were taken by children who attend [Freya's local C&K kindergarten].
Giving young children a camera is a powerful way of enabling them to demonstrate their interest in a subject. By using a real camera they can imitate the significant adults in their life and take photos of interest to them.
The children were very proud of the photos they took and were very excited to show their work here at the library.
Each photo is unique and shows how individual children's perspectives are and how uniquely we must value and treat each one.
Young children are competent and capable and are such an asset to our community.
We hope you enjoy reading their stories..."
Freya chose a photo that she took of our cat Winifred.

A present, a gecko & cheese fondue
Today we celebrated Aunty Priya's birthday (Aunty Dee's too but we didn't see her). Freya helped to pick out a 'little' present for her and was terribly impressed that it was a 'Frazzy sized' gift... fitting perfectly into the palm of her hand. Freya likes it when things are 'Frazzy sized'.
We all went out to one of our favourite places for dinner - a Swiss restaurant called Des Alpes which does the most fantastic cheese fondue! On the way there we had a little hitchhiker which sent Freya and Daddy into instant story telling mode imagining that the gecko had a hankering for Swiss food too.

Girly Girl!
She's not usually a girly girl kind of girl! But today Freya went to a tea party and the makeup came out. The girls were so incredibly sweet together and the end result for many of them was colourful to say the least! Freya came home and revisited the toy sale catalogue to circle herself some makeup sets. I'm now fearing for my own makeup!

Important Life Lessons
Yes you know you've taught your child an important life lesson when they make you a cappuccino for the first time! Freya was so proud of herself and after making me a cappuccino made herself a babyccino. Then she blew on it:
Freya: "Oh Mummy just one blow and I have chocolate everywhere!"
Freya: "I know, I'll have to lick my way out of this problem!"
She makes me laugh so much sometimes. Later in the day:
Freya: "Mummy I love you!"
Me: "I love you too Freya."
Freya: "I love you even though you dressed me in pink."
Lucky that :-)

Freya will now often blow bubbles for Eli. Today she showed me a new trick... catching them! She was pretty proud of that new trick.

Daddy comes to kindy!

Today Daddy came to kindy with me for the day and Mr Puppet came too. I loved playing with Daddy today. It was such a fun day with Daddy. We listened to 'Wonky Donky' and Mr Puppet looked very silly with the earphones on! I enjoyed Daddy here at kindy. I played with lots of stuff. I did a painting, I played with the train track and it was a very fun day today. I got an egg with a bird in it and I wrote a treasure map to Santa Claus. By Freya.

Sweet Dreams
I used to always put you to sleep. These days your daddy reads your bedtime stories and sits with you while you go to sleep and I feed Eli to sleep. But tonight I sat with you while you went to sleep and oh how I love to just watch you while you drift into slumber. Curled up snugly with one of your stuffed animals. It was Darcy's turn tonight. Goodnight my beautiful girl.
